Moment Frame Structural Steel - Carefree Highway, North Phoenix

Engineered structural steel moment frame for a custom residence along Carefree Highway in North Phoenix. The owner wanted a wide, post-free interior opening across the great room. Because the home is wood-framed, the structural engineer specified a steel moment frame to carry the lateral and shear loads that interior walls would normally have resisted. Granite Mountain MetalWorks fabricated the columns and beams to the engineer's drawings, then crane-set the frame on anchor bolts cast into the slab and welded the full-strength moment connections in the field. The connections were prepared, welded, and inspected to certified welding standards for the seismic and wind demands at the site. Tucked seamlessly into the surrounding wood framing, the moment frame disappears once the walls are closed in, leaving the homeowner with the open architectural feel they wanted and the structural performance the engineer required.
